Final Fantasy: New Set Means New Tokens!

Final Fantasy Tokens in Magic: The Gathering

With the release of the Magic: The Gathering x Final Fantasy set, the design team crafted some of the most flavorful token generators ever. Here’s a deep dive into each category and the cards that bring them to life.

Knight Tokens

The first token type seeing a bump with this set are Knights. There are a lot of synergies with this creature type, and some great new cards were printed to support them.

The first one to call out is Knights of the Round. This card has a bombastic board presence that calls forth TWELVE 2/2 Knight tokens — and as a nod to the legendary summon from Final Fantasy VII, it takes just as long to get all of them as the summoning cinematic in the game!

The other callout is Dion, Prince of Bahamut and his transformed version, Bahamut's Dominant. This new commander buffs all of your knights and also gives you a body upon entering.

Both of these cards synergize well with any Knight-type deck you may already have or, in Dion's case, can even be your new Commander!

Copy Tokens

Copy tokens have long been a tool for combo and synergy-focused decks, and this set gives them new life. Terra, Magical Adept is a standout — her ability to clone other enchantments (most likely the new Summon creatures) brings strong ETB effects and unique builds to the table. If you have one great creature, Terra makes sure you’ll soon have two.

Espers to Magicite provides some graveyard hate while also converting your opponents' creatures into additional copy tokens to improve your boardstate — a flavor-packed mechanic that fits the scene in the game perfectly.

Demon Tokens

If you like to lean into the villainous side of Magic, Ardyn, the Usurper delivers with style. This Final Fantasy XV antagonist generates Demon tokens to support a variety of black and red strategies, from sacrifice builds to aggressive midrange plans.

The demons Ardyn creates are more than just cannon fodder — they represent a powerful piece of his storyline and give you real value on the battlefield. He’s a flavor win and a mechanical threat rolled into one. Bust out those Shadowborn Apostles!

Treasure Tokens

Treasure tokens remain one of the most valuable utility tools in Commander. Ancient Adamantoise and Cloud, Ex-SOLDIER each offer ways to generate Treasure with minimal effort, enabling explosive turns and high-cost plays earlier than expected.

Adamantoise dumps a hoard of Treasure on death, a perfect death trigger for aristocrat decks. Meanwhile, Cloud plays well into aggressive or equipment-based decks where tempo is key.
